Local Councillors are responsible for making decisions on your behalf about local services.
Elections as prescribed by the Scottish Parliament are held every 5 years to elect councillors to 32 local authorities in Scotland. Each local government area in Scotland is divided into electoral wards and there is a separate election for each electoral ward. The number of Councillors returned in each electoral ward is either three or four.
·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp Council area provides 11 electoral wards, each represented by three or four elected Councillors.
Councillors are elected through the system which allows voters to express a preference for more than one candidate.

Welcome to Your Vote
You can vote in Scottish Local Government (council) elections if you are:
- Aged 16 or over on polling day
- A British, Irish or EU citizen living in the UK
- A Commonwealth citizen who has permission to enter or stay in the UK, or who does not require such permission
- A foreign national who has permission to enter or stay in the UK, or who does not require such permission
- Not subject to any legal incapacity to vote
- Registered to vote - if your name isn’t on the electoral register, you can’t take part

Once you’re registered to vote, there are a number of different ways to have your say in the council elections.
You can vote in person at a polling station (here is a list of polling places in ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp.

You may wish to appoint someone you trust to vote on your behalf - this is known as a proxy vote.
