- The B828 is now OPEN
- We carried out works involving a variety of different steps such as new anchored concrete beams and new retaining walls to support the road at various points.
- We had hoped to re-open the road on Friday 22 December, however, specialist contractors working on behalf of Forest and Land Scotland advised us that two large boulders on the hillside (weighing up to 300 tonnes each) were unstable. Due to public safety, the road will therefore remain closed over the festive period. Contractors will continue to monitor the situation.
- Access to Lochgoilhead was available via Hell's Glen and the A815
- The council was in a position to reopen the B828 after FLS confirmed their contractor’s works was completed. Our contractor first needs to remove the blocks that are in place to close the road and have the road swept.
How it happened
This road closed due to a landslip and the undermining of a bridge structure. The repairs involved anchored concrete beams and retaining walls to restore the road edge, and the digging out and filling in of scoured areas, followed by drainage repairs and a new safety fence.
We completed emergency bridge works to deal with scour damage (water eroding the bridge abutment/foundation) and work to stabilise the embankment which supports the road. There were a number of locations along the B828 where rock nailing and support beams are being installed.
Sections of concrete edge beam were poured with similar work ongoing at a number of sections on this length of road. Drainage was been reinstated and is flowing.
