Help for Children and Young People

Welcome to your page which is full of information about what to do if you’re worried about yourself or others being harmed.

Will my parents get into trouble if I tell on them

It is not unusual to like or even love the person that is abusing you even though you don’t like what they are doing.  This is especially true if the abuser is your mum, dad or carer.  The abuse might also only happen some of the time like when they have been drinking.  No matter how often or in what situation it takes place what they are doing is wrong.   It is not your fault.

It is really important that you think about your own safety first.   Your well-being is much more important than how upset a person who is hurting you might be.  Your safety is much more important than any trouble somebody who is hurting you will get into.  It’s not your fault.

If it isn’t stopped abuse can affect your future health and happiness.  It is your parent or carers job to keep you safe from harm.  When those who look after you are hurting or neglecting you always tell someone about it.

Most parents and carers don’t like it when outsiders get involved with their family.  Some get angry or upset when family matters are being talked about.  We know that things get better for young people and their families when they have the support they need.

You are not alone.  We care and we will help.  It’s what we do.  It is your right to feel safe and protected and it’s our job to make that you are.

The leaflet below explains what happens when social workers or the police want to speak to you, and gives you numbers to call if you need someone to talk to.
