Primary schools name gritters for ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp

Where will you see Vanilla Ice, Gritny Spears, Captain Gritter Pants and The Grittersaurus keeping the roads free of ice and snow?

In ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp – thanks to the imaginations of primary school pupils across the region.

In October, the council took delivery of 17 new vehicles to join its fleet of winter maintenance vehicles.

And we thought one gritter in each of our four areas should have a name.

The challenge was put out to our schools and great ideas and fantastic drawings came flooding in.

The winners are:

Southend Primary School, Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the Islands - The Grittersaurus;

  • Thomas Meikle, of Colgrain Primary School, Helensburgh and Lomond - Captain Gritter Pants;
  • Emily Hutchins, of Strachur Primary, Bute and Cowal - Vanilla Ice; and
  • Ayla Purfit, of Salen Primary, Oban, Lorn and the Isles - Gritny Spears.

Pippa Milne, Executive Director, said: “Along with my fellow judge, Executive Director Douglas Hendry, I was absolutely blown away with all the entries. We had a lot of fun looking through all the names and amazing drawings and we found it really difficult to choose winners.

 â€œWe are very grateful that our pupils took the time, and the effort, to come up with such wonderful ideas. Everyone who took part is very talented and should be very proud.â€

Entrants will receive a certificate and the winning names will be put on plaques on the local vehicles.
