K is for Kitchen Skills

We've now entered week three of our A to Z of council services and what better way to start it than by paying tribute to our hardworking catering staff.

Our primary schools menu is revised twice a year and is designed in consultation with the children through pupil focus groups. This helps to ensure they have a say in the menu choices and get an understanding of the importance of having a balanced diet.

May MacKenzie is the Catering Manager at Kilninver Primary School and feels passionately about ensuring our young people get the best start in life. So, when pre-5 pupil Heidi Martin made a recipe book of delicious smoothies, May was keen to help the four-year-old bring her creations to life.

After a lot of hard work in the school kitchen, Heidi and May were able to serve up a delicious, healthy smoothie to everyone in the school – much to the delight of the pupils.

May said: “It is little things like this that make my job even more special. I love working in the school and knowing that the pupils are receiving a nutritious, healthy meal every day.â€

May is just one of around 260 catering staff in ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp schools, committed to promoting the importance of healthy choices to our children and young people.
