Donnie is presented with the British Empire Medal

It was a special day for ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp Councillor Donnie MacMillan today (Friday) when he was presented with the British Empire Medal.

Councillor MacMillan was elected to ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp District Council in 1980 and has been elected continuously ever since.  He has served on almost 50 committees and agencies, and is extremely well-know in the community, attending numerous local events.

Councillor MacMillan said: "I am honoured to receive the British Empire Medal. It’s been a privilege to represent the people of Mid Argyll as a councillor. I always wanted to help the community – that’s what it always was about and what it always will be."

Donnie also thanked family, friends and colleagues for their support and said he was overwhelmed by the number of people who attended to see him receive his medal.

Citation by Jane McLeod, Deputy Lord Lieutenant, recognised Donnie for his long service to the country and ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp, which began shortly after the second world war when he served with the RAF in Japan.
