Kerbside food waste collections to resume in Helensburgh and Lomond

Kerbside food waste collections will resume in Helensburgh and Lomond during the week beginning 17 August.

You can look up the council website and see when your first collection will be.

If you have a printed calendar, you can start following it again for your food waste collection dates from 17 August.

We realise that some customers may have run out of bags for their food caddy. To make it easier for people to get more, some local shops have kindly agreed to hold a stock of them for collection until the end of August. You can pick up a roll of caddy bags, from tomorrow 6 August, at:

  • Helensburgh Co-op

  • Rosneath Co-op

  • Cardross Co-op

  • Kilcreggan Costcutter

  • Garelochhead - Eureka

  • Arrochar – The Slanj

If you are unable to get to the shop to pick up bags ready for the first collection, please put your clean, EMPTY caddy, with any bag tied to the handle, out on the kerbside on your first collection day. We will leave a roll of bags in the caddy and you can resume your food waste recycling as normal the following week.

Please don’t put out a caddy with unbagged food waste, particularly if you need a roll of caddy bags.  We won’t leave a clean roll of bags in a dirty caddy.

Can we also remind you not to put any food waste in a normal plastic bag. We use compostable bags because the food waste is processed and turned into either energy or compost and normal plastic bags would interfere with this process.

Councillor Robin Currie, Policy Lead for Housing, Roads and Infrastructure Services, said: “This marks another step back to more normal services. I’d like to thank residents for their patience during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have had to change the way we work and I know this has not always been easy for people. Nonetheless, many folk have sent kind messages to our bin crews over the past weeks and months. Thank you for your understanding – it has been appreciated.â€
