Ƶapp Council has listened to feedback from parents and pupils, and created a tasty new school menu that takes their views into account.
The Scottish Government introduced new guidelines for school meals in April and, following feedback from parents and pupils, council officers have worked hard to create a delicious menu that will appeal to pupils, while also meeting the guidance.
From the start of the new term, primary four pupils and children in Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) settings will also be entitled to free school meals, alongside existing pupils in primaries one, two and three. Children will also be entitled to free milk with their school meal after the council made the decision to scrap the 10p milk charge in June.
Policy Lead for Business, Regeneration and Commercial Development, Councillor Alastair Redman, said: “We have listened to what our parents and pupils want, and our catering teams have worked extremely hard to come up with a delicious menu that sees the return of some favourite dishes.
“The new guidelines aim to improve the health and nutrition of our young people, but in order to ensure there is uptake for the meals on offer, we need to provide a menu that is tempting, and I believe this is what we have done.”
