Pupils at Arinagour Primary are the best in the west when it comes to figures and formulas, with the school having just been declared the winner of Sumdog’s National Holiday Maths Contest.
And, as if this success is not enough, the clever youngsters also came first in Sumdog’s ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp Maths Competition.
·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp Council’s Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly, said: “Maths is one of the four STEM subjects, alongside science, technology and engineering. These subjects have a huge impact on our everyday lives – they are all around us. From riding a bike and cooking, to doing your weekly shop and playing a games console, each and every one of these things is a STEM activity.
“A large number of career paths rely on these subjects, particularly in ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp, so we have invested a lot of time and money into STEM in our schools to ensure our young people are given every opportunity to succeed and are prepared for whichever career path they choose. I’m absolutely over the moon to hear that Arinagour is reaping the benefits of this and want to congratulate every pupil who contributed to this achievement.â€
