Ukrainian community events are a welcome success

Ƶapp Council teamed up with liveArgyll and Ƶapp TSI to host two successful welcome events for Ukrainian refugee families who have arrived in the area.

The welcome fairs took place in Dunoon and Oban, and a large number of partner organisations and community groups attended to showcase the wide range of services and support available.

The event attracted a large number of families, all of whom received helpful information on everything from housing to benefits.

The Leader of Ƶapp Council, Councillor Robin Currie, said: “Ƶapp is renowned for its strong community spirit, so it really is no surprise that so many local organisations and community groups turned out to welcome our new families in Dunoon and Oban.

“The events provided our new arrivals with a central point to access local services and gain valuable information, and the feedback we have received since has been very positive and encouraging. I would like to thank everyone involved for going above and beyond.”

Talking after the Oban event, a Ukrainian mother said: “The event was really, really great. It gave my boys and me the opportunity to meet other families like us and to find out what services are available - my sons even met their new teacher. Travelling from Ukraine to Scotland was very daunting but everyone has made me feel very welcome and part of the community.”
