£260,000 investment for Gibraltar Street, Oban

A bright, contemporary and accessible gateway to Oban Town Centre, with more people choosing to shop local – that is the vision behind new improvement works due to take place in Gibraltar Street later this year.

·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp is leading on the £260, 0000 project using funding from the Scottish Government’s Place Based Investment Programme, including a £10k contribution from Bid4Oban. It is one of five projects taking place across ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp to help support ongoing economic recovery from the pandemic.

Work will include improved signage, accessible footways and new street furniture including seating.

The council has appointed landscape architects to carry out initial designs and a public engagement event is taking place on Thursday 9 June from 12 noon to 6pm, on Gibraltar Street. It will give the public and local businesses the chance to view designs and have their say on the planned improvements.

Councillor Robin Currie, Policy Lead for Economy and Rural Growth:

“We are committed to helping our communities with ongoing recovery from the impact of the pandemic. The Place Based Investment adds to our overall ambition to enhance the local economy by creating vibrant town centres and helping to attract more people, and the right skills required to aid economic success for ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp.

With improvement works at the gateway to Oban’s town centre, we want more people to support local businesses and help keep spending local. â€
