Pupils and staff prepare for summer break

Pupils and staff in schools across ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp will break up for their summer holidays this week.

Thanking them for their hard work and wishing them a happy, restful summer, the council's Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly, said: “I would like to wish our schools staff, early years practitioners, and children and young people a very happy, well-deserved summer break.

“The last 12 months have seen our schools finally return to some normality after what was a very turbulent and uncertain time during the pandemic.

“But, just as quickly as pupils adjusted to home schooling and wearing masks in class, they have adapted to being back at school full-time, mixing with their friends and driving forward with their studies. For the first time in two years, senior pupils were able to sit exams - our children and young people never fail to surprise me with their resilience.

“There have also been a huge number of award-winning successes in our schools over the last year. From Dunoon Grammar in the running for the World’s Best School andHermitage Academy receiving gold accreditation from Investors in People, to Sandbank Primary School’s Gaelic 5-7 class scooping Best Film Production in the under 12 category at the prestigious FilmG Awards and Islay High School’s entry winning the Best Film (Learners). These are just a few examples of the many achievements our schools have had – there are just too many to mention.

“Behind each and every success is a dedicated team of teachers, schools staff and parents who are committed to ensuring pupils receive the best education and the best opportunities, and for that I am sincerely grateful.

“There are lots of positive things happening in our education service but for now, it is time for pupils and staff to take a well-earned break, have fun and recharge their batteries before beginning an exciting, new term.â€
