Works to create a much-wanted public space to host outdoor community events in Ardrishaig alongside a new Lochside seating area are now complete and open to the public.
The community facilities are just some of the benefits from a £700,000 public realm improvement programme delivered by Ƶapp Council.
The full programme of works include:
- A new lochside viewing area with additional seating and art work
- Alterations to the north car park including an expansion of disabled parking
- New artwork on the canal embankment
- Reconfiguring of the memorial garden to include new seating areas, picnic benches and a path
- Improved accessibility for the Argyll Sea Kayak Trail making it easier for kayakers to go between Loch Fyne and the Crinan Canal
Councillor Alastair Redman, Policy Lead, Economic Growth and Communities, said: “Across Ƶapp, investment is taking place to help create improved spaces for communities and attract more people to the area, to support the local economy.
Throughout extensive consultations, it was clear from local residents and community groups that creating an improved environment for community events and activities was high on the wish list for some time.
It’s fantastic to see the new and improved facilities now complete, all of which will bring real benefits for local people and visitors in Ardrishaig.
On behalf of the council. I would like to thank everyone for their patience throughout the works and look forward to seeing lots of people making use of the Public Square and Lochside seating area.”
The works completed on schedule and on budget. One final element of the programme to mark the white and yellow lining of the south car park and A83 road surface will take place soon. The car park will close on Monday 15 May for the day. Parking is available in the north car park and at Pier Square.
The developments are part of wider regeneration initiatives already delivered in the area by partners. These include enhanced facilities introduced for the local community and tourist visitors at Ardrishaig Harbour by Scottish Canals and upgrades of the Public and North Halls by the Ardrishaig Community Trust.
