Where information is received by police, or social work that a child may have been abused or neglected and/or is suffering or is likely to suffer significant harm, an INTERAGENCY REFERRAL DISCUSSION (IRD) must be considered and convened as soon as reasonably practicable. An IRD will co‑ordinate decision-making about such investigation and action as may be needed to ensure the safety of children ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp along with IRD recording form are below.
The Inter-Agency Discussion should generate an interim safety plan as one of it’s outcomes, however there may have been actions to ensure safety of the child prior to IRD, this would then be discussed and amended at the IRD.
The purpose of an interim safety plan is to ensure a child’s safety as immediately as necessary until such times as a Child Protection Planning Meeting (CPPM) is held. this plan is about safety right now and is operational immediately.
The plan must include how the child is seen and heard during the period the plan is in place and how the child is supported in understanding any family contact arrangements and reasons for their current circumstance.
It is recommended that a child’s version is developed and shared with the child to enhance their understanding and minimise the possibility of confusion and stress.
The plan must be recorded and shared and be completed using plain language and no jargon.
Any plan must be communicated to each professional, child and family.
Following notification of a child protection concern, this is the next critical phase in risk assessment and response.
