Plans to build a new school campus on Mull have reached a significant milestone as ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp Council welcome the preferred main contractor, announced by Hub North Scotland.
Robertson Construction Group will take forward the new Mull campus as part of the North School Programme, which includes a number of new school projects.
The cost of building the campus is ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp Council’s single biggest investment estimated at £43 million. Following a ‘call for sites’ appeal, a list has been narrowed down to those that are potentially viable, which include sites in Tobermory and central locations on Mull.
A detailed technical assessment of the shortlisted sites is underway by Council officers and experts to look at technical suitability. The assessments take into account a number of factors such as cost, risk, transport impact and feedback from the community engagement exercise. Assessment is ongoing and the shortlist will be available to the public in February 2025.
The North Schools Programme is a unique collaboration between a number of local authorities including ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp, and hub North Scotland to work together to deliver a new learning estate.
Councillor Audrey Forrest, Policy Lead for Education:
“We welcome the announcement by Hub North Scotland that we now have a preferred contractor in place to progress an ambitious 2-18 campus for Mull.
Whilst we continue to assess suitable sites, we are reassured that we now have a main contractor on board and we are in a position to move to the next phase of the project.
Robertson Construction Group has a solid reputation for delivering high quality facilities and placing the community at the heart of everything they deliver. Their appointment marks another important milestone for the project and we look forward to working with them to develop our plans.â€
Elliot Robertson, Chief Executive Officer, Robertson Group, said: “The creation of the community campus on Mull is an excellent opportunity to work again with ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp Council to showcase the capabilities of our team, particularly within an island environment, and to continue our relationship with hub North Scotland.
“The development will play a vital role at the heart of the community and as a responsible business we aim to leave a lasting legacy through the delivery of social and economic benefits.
“As we work with hub North Scotland and ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp Council to take this project to the design phase and prepare for delivery, central to our approach will be to involve the community every step of the way.â€
